Announcer: The following minute is brought to you by Relationship Excellence dot com.
Owen Williams: Welcome to The Relationship Minute. I'm Owen Williams.
Owen Williams: We all want to feel loved and accepted just as we are. We fall in love with someone. We embrace them and then magically we want them to change. We want things to be different about them. We compare them to other people, to ideals sometimes unrealistic expectations of how a partner should or needs to be.
Owen Williams: When we have a list of things that we want to have different in our partners, it's helpful to ask ourselves what do I need to do differently in order to embrace my partner exactly as he or she is? What's at risk for me in embracing what's difficult for me to accept in my partner? Far better to focus on what works in a relationship than what doesn't because we all want to be celebrated for who we are rather than who we're not.
Owen Williams: Thank you for taking The Relationship Minute and remember it's later than you think.
