The Hallmark of a Relationship

Announcer: The following minute is brought to you by Relationship Excellence dot com.

Owen Williams: Welcome to The Relationship Minute. I'm Owen Williams.

Owen Williams: What is the hallmark of a relationship? Well that question brings up to me that famous Hallmark saying that, "love means never having to say you're sorry". Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact when we love someone, we apologize. It's critical in relationships that we take responsibility for our impact and say I'm sorry – but not just I'm sorry. I'm sorry that's linked to a behavior change. "I'm sorry I want to that again" is not enough. "I'm sorry and the next time I feel like X. I'm going to do this instead". That is a story that we can believe in and trust. So love means always being able to say I'm sorry.

Owen Williams: Who do you need to apologize to?

Owen Williams: Thank you for taking The Relationship Minute and remember it's later than you think.
